FAQ - E-Learning

E-learning is an active learning platform which provides learner centric online courses of various discipline. It provides a platform where the individual gets a customized package related to key thematic areas, through a computer-guided process.
A key advantage of e-learning is that it has quick delivery cycle than traditional classroom-based instruction. E-learning reduces learning time by at least 25 to 60 percent when compared to traditional learning methods. Also this is an as asynchronous learning method which provides learner anytime anywhere easy access for upgradation of knowledge and skills.
E-learning is a part of IIRS Distance Learning or Outreach programme. The e-learning courses are designed and developed as a self-learning contents with computer guided system. The learners can take these courses with self-pace and convenience.
EDUSAT is a live and interactive programme which can be attended through any online contents delivery system such A-view, webcasting, IIRS live server etc. Under these programmes, the live classroom sessions are broadcasted during defined time slot and duration. Under Live and interactive programme, the network of knowledge Institutions in India is setup with identified coordinator. The participants has to register for the programme by selecting any one network Institution. The participant has to attend the programme through his/her nodal centre only.
It is open for all those who are interested in the Remote Sensing, GIS and GNSS technologies and its applications.
A computer with a good speed of internet is required at participant’s end.
You can register for IIRS e-Learning by visiting the site https://elearning.iirs.gov.in.
For learners no minimum qualification is required. However to get a certificate from IIRS following qualification is required:
  • Persons who have successfully completed graduation or 3 years diploma after 10th standard or equivalent are eligible.
  • or

  • Working Professionals with 10+2 educational qualification and minimum 5 years’ experience in geo-spatial domain or related areas.
IIRS offers five e-learning courses -
  • Comprehensive certificate course on Remote Sensing and Geo-information Science- 04 Months duration.
  • Certificate course on Fundamentals of Remote Sensing-01 Month duration.
  • Certificate course on Fundamentals of Photogrammetry and Cartography-01 Month duration.
  • Certificate course on Fundamentals of Geographical Information System and Global Navigation System-01 Month duration.
  • Certificate course on Fundamentals of Digital Image Processing-01 Month duration.
For learners there is No Course Fee

For certificate courses -
  • Fee for the 4 month course is 10000 and
  • Fee for the 1 month course is 2500.

Learner - Joining the course for learning purpose and will have access to all the contents. But will not participate in any course activities such as Assignments, Assessments, Online examination, certification etc.

For Certificate - Joining the course for learning purpose and are willing to receive certification from IISR-ISRO. These participants will have access to all the contents and will also participate in all the course activities such as Assignments, Assessments, Online examination, certification etc. These participants will be eligible for getting certificates after submission of fee, meeting the attendance criteria and getting pass marks in online examinations.
Certificate participants will be getting the certificate from IIRS-ISRO once they successfully complete the programme.
Yes. But you need to register separately through nodal centre.
For the learner’s immediate confirmation will be given through registered email. For the certificate programme, the participants will receive confirmation by authorised person after validation of their application form and uploaded documents.
Once you have submitted the online application form, you will be getting a mail in your registered e-mail id with a softcopy of your filled application form. The admission letter and login credentials will be provided after approval from IIRS. In general it will take 1-2 working days for confirmation.
In home page of IIRS e-learning portal the participants can login using the login credentials provided. After login the user can access the course content.
A learning management system (LMS) is a software application for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting and delivery of educational courses or training programs. In IIRS e-learning programme, the LMS is developed and customized using Moodle.
If you are accessing your course first time, enable pop-ups in your browser for https://elearning.iirs.gov.in. If popups are blocked then the new window for contents will not open.

If popups are enabled but still you are not able to see your course contents then it might be possible that your course time is expired and you need to extend it. Please write to elearning@iirs.gov.in with your name and registration number for extension of your course.
Once you finish all the topics in the existing chapter, link for the next chapter will be enabled automatically.
A pop up is a window that appears when you select an option with a mouse or press a special function key. Usually, the pop-up window contains a menu of commands and stays on the screen only until you select one of the commands. It then disappears.

Turn pop-ups on or off (example for Google Chrome browser)
On your computer, open Chrome.
At the top right, click More
Click Settings.
At the bottom, click Show advanced settings.
Under "Privacy," click Content settings.
Under "Pop-ups," select an option:
  • Do not allow any site to show pop-ups (recommended)
  • Allow all sites to show pop-ups
If you have opted for the Remote Sensing and Geo-information Science then the course will be available for 4 months from the date of approval and for the rest of the courses the available time is 1 month.
You are required to spend minimum 70% of your total course duration on the course.
Total time spent on the course is the attendance for the participants.
Theory is the part in which concepts related to RS & GIS will be explained. In the practicals, the demonstration of the software will be given.
The practical exercise are entirely conducted on open source software. The link will be provided from where you can download the software and start practicing it. It is expected that the participants will execute practical exercises at his/her end using open source software and data provided.
Details regarding the downloading of the software and data will be available in practical demonstration section.
For extending the course, send a request for to elearning@iirs.gov.in with your registration no. and registered email id.
Quiz is test of knowledge which you have gained in the entire e-Learning course. Quiz is there only for those who has registered as a certificate participants.

After completing each paper, an assessment will be conducted through which you can test your knowledge. It is available for both the learner and certificate participants.
Once you spend 70% time of the course duration in your e-learning course and pay your fee, automatically you will be eligible for the examination.
As of now there is no option for downloading the contents of the IIRS e-Learning course.
You can record your screen using third party desktop screen recording software such as Desktop activity recorder, camstudio etc.
For appearing in the examination, complete the stipulated time and payment. Once it is done a link will be open for you on 1st and 4th week of every month. Just click on the link and appear in the exam.
Examination will be conducted every month on the 1st and 4th week.
Maximum of two attempts will be allowed for examination.
Multiple choice questions or true or false type of questions will be asked in the examination.
Depending on the marks you have scored on the examination, grades will be awarded accordingly.

After successful completion of your course and examination, the certificate download module will be activated under your login.
Immediately after the successful completion of your course and examination, you can download your certificate.
Yes. As you will be receiving an digital certificate you are free to make multiple copy of it.

Yes. You can register in many courses can be registered with the single email id.
No. You have to use different password for the different courses. But username can be same.

As this is an online course, there is no need to visit IIRS. All the queries are solved either by mail or phone call.
